Why Learn about Data Science?

Data Science is by no means a new field of research, it has existed since the beginning of time under different names, however, now it has reached a more mature, and definitive form with an even wider toolset. It can be functionally defined as the art of analyzing and abstracting away meaningful relevant insights out of data-sets whose points encode information from different fields of human inquiry.
For data scientists, mathematics provides the syntax through which they are able to recognize these data-sets and identify new correlations that our reality displays to us, and interpret them, this for sure can help us upgrade our understanding of reality itself, ourselves, and consequently act more effectively in the world.

And since information is the actualization of potential, and data-sets are the encoding of information, it follows from here that it is omnipresent, it is practiced in almost every intellectual discipline, we are in fact practicing it everyday, and more importantly it is being utilized heavily by large companies, corporations and governments to inform decision-policies that will affect you, your family, and your community so, the “right” question really should be “why is there anybody at all who is not interested in learning about data science?”
